Looking to the Bible throughout my marriage is an excellent way to remember the importance of the vows that I took to stay engaged with my faith and my spouse on a daily basis. Here are some Bible verses that have helped me, both in good times and in bad.
1 Peter 4:8
Love covers a multitude of sinsThis is a crucial life verse for marriage because marriage is a unification of two imperfect people. No one is perfect in a marriage. There will be times that a husband or wife may fail each other, mess up, or do something hurtful. It is important to remember God's definition of love and know that loving each other deeply can cover all those sins. This verse reminds us the true power of love!
A threefold cord cannot quickly be torn apart.Understanding that two is stronger than one is one thing. But, understanding two together united with our one God, Jehovah, is even stronger! The three cords represent a husband, a wife, and Jehovah God. These three form a close relationship that is not easily broken.
Ephesians 4:2, 3
[Put] up with one another in love, earnestly endeavoring to maintain the oneness of the spirit in the uniting bond of peace. If a husband and wife are humble, patient, gentle, and selfless in a relationship this will cause less confrontation and arguments. This verse reminds us to keep calm and do as Jesus would do.
‘I well know the thoughts that I am thinking toward you,’ declares Jehovah, ‘thoughts of peace, and not of calamity, to give you a future and a hope.’These words fill our hearts with hope and faith. We know what the future hold, but we must also trust that He will strengthen us each day until that day arrives.
What God has yoked together, let no man put apart.
When we first enter into marriage, the last thing we are thinking about is divorce! But, through the years of being together, we may enter times of hardship and trials that threaten our relationship. If this is ever the case, allow Jehovah God’s word come into play. You have been yoked together by God; don’t let anyone or anything separate your love for one other.
