Scriptures for Weddings & Love

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous. It does not brag, does not get puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. It does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. But if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away with; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away with.

Matthew 19:5, 6

This passage, spoken by Jesus Himself, illustrates the meaning of unity between man and woman as ordained by God. This verse tells us not only of the possibility of love, but of its necessity. Just as one has a mother and a father, a spouse is also an important part of life.

Colossians 3:14

But besides all these things, clothe yourselves with love, for it is a perfect bond of union.

Another beautiful verse boasting of the power of love. The preceding verses talk of the importance of compassion, kindness, humility, mildness and patience – all traits of a devoted Witness of Jehovah – but love gets its very own verse.

Proverbs 18:22

The one who finds a good wife has found something good, And he receives Jehovah’s favor.

A wife is truly a blessing from God and a sign of His goodness and mercy. One should rejoice for having been blessed in such a way and love his wife as God loves all His children.
